Accounting students typically hear about 2 main accounting career paths – tax and audit. But what exactly is auditing and how does it fit into the larger accounting profession?

Lecturer and Director of Internal Audit, Jo Erven, talked all about audit and shared her audit path in our recent “Mapping Your Audit Path” virtual event. She first broke down the accounting profession to help give some context, talked about internal audit vs. external audit, and gave tips to attendees who are looking to break into the field and/or advance their audit career. Amanda “Jo” Erven is a Colorado CPA, a CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), a CFE (Certificate Fraud Examiner), and an entrepreneur – owning her own consulting and training firm, Audit. Consulting. Education. LLC. Jo received her Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Georgia in 2004. She has authored three books, including one on Internal Audit, one on Personal Development, and the most recent one on Ethics. Jo has trained hundreds of clients and thousands of IIA and ACFE members on these three topics.
